Monroe v. Local 445

2026: Mr. Nugent successfully represented the Town of Monroe in obtaining a stay of arbitration that had been demanded by the Teamsters Local 445. The Town argued that the relief sought by the union employee in a grievance would violate statutory law (Civil Service Law § 61) and in addition, the Town argued that the Town and the Union did not agree to arbitrate disciplinary matters. The court agreed with the Town’s arguments on both points and permanently stayed arbitration of the matter.
